Our story
Leicester Coffee House Company combines good quality, ethically sourced, locally roasted coffee with positive community vibes!
We began roasting beans on a popcorn maker at home before progressing onto a small home roaster. We opened our Granby Street coffee house in October 2018 and purchased a larger 1kg Probat roaster to roast all our beans. We have now outgrown this roaster and use a larger 20kg off site.
We took our name from the original Leicester Coffee and Cocoa House Company that began life in 1877. This company combined commercial profit with the benefit of townspeople and it too opened its first coffee shop on Granby Street.
We started life with the idea of developing a community project providing supported learning opportunities for young people and started this aspect of our business straight away. We had some wonderful positive outcomes with a range of young people and then Covid came along and it became all about business survival!
Now a bustling coffee shop with 4 staff, we are busy serving our community with not only fantastic coffee and homemade cakes, but with a place to be, a community and a tribe of loyal fans. We also house the Granby Street Therapists - a small group of independent therapists hidden away upstairs who are supporting the people of Leicester through talking therapies.
