23rd March - 8th May - James Harvey Jackson

I am an artist working in a variety of community settings for the past 43 years. I have worked on local adventure playgrounds as a play worker since 1983 and as an arts worker for Soft Touch Arts Ltd from 1986 to 2023. I am also a mural artist, banner maker and sign writer and continue to produce hand painted murals and banners for a wide variety of local organisations including community groups, campaigns and trades unions.
I have also been a co-director of two local fireworks display companies from 1988 to 2018.
I am now a freelance artist specialising in arts in mental health and have worked on projects in The Bradgate Mental Health Unit funded by Leicestershire NHS Partnership Trust and Bright Sparks Arts In Mental Health Charity.
In my photographic work I have taught black and white photography and run creative photography sessions in a variety of settings from Leicester College to local adventure playgrounds and other community venues. This often entailed setting up a temporary darkroom in a suitable space.
I have retained an interest in black and white films and papers, creating photographs and making photograms in the darkroom as well as using pinhole cameras.
The work in this exhibition is a small selection of black and white photographs created with a variety of film and pinhole cameras, which use photographic papers.
I have an archive website: www.jhjartprojects.co.uk, which currently displays around 250 images of different aspects of my practice, including photographs.

11 May - 3rd July Martin Cook
Something a little different
This time we have Martin Cook with a display of rather different limited edition photographic prints of our city. A regular visitor, he has been inspired by the sights and energy of Leicester aiming to capture images with impact, but disturbed by the
city centre homelessness problem. The artworks will be limited to just 5 prints each, numbered and signed, and for sale with all the profits going to Leicester’s homeless charity.
Martin has previously covered Henley-on-Thames events with his camera over 17 years for his local newspaper, although he has also been published in national newspapers, magazines and on the BBC website. He has held several exhibitions in the Thames Valley for the last 20 years. However, this is his first one here and he is keen to gain both publicity and contributions for the charity.
